Richard Rierson is a prominent entrepreneur, leadership mentor, and podcast host with a wealth of experience in the military, hospitality, and real estate industries. Born and raised in Wichita, Kansas, Richard attended Wichita State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science in 1991.
After graduation, Richard Rierson began training for Officer Candidate School (OCS). He spent six months at Infantry School, where he learned the essential qualities required for a United States Marine Corps leader. In 1993, Richard attended flight school and logged 10,500 flight hours as a Captain/Aircraft Commander in multiple types of aircraft in both military and commercial settings.
Military Career of Richard Rierson
Richard served ten years of active duty as an Officer in the United States Marine Corps and ten years part-time with the Kansas Air National Guard & Air Force Reserve. His military service instilled a deep appreciation for leadership, which he would later apply to his professional career.
After leaving the military, Richard worked his way up to Vice President at various companies, including hotels, providing oversight and leadership to the entire field and directing the area manager and exceptional operation staff. In this role, Richard received the Wichita Business Journal’s annual 40-Under-40 award in 2007.
Launching Dose of Leadership Podcast
Richard’s natural leadership abilities and passion for helping others inspired him to share his knowledge with a bigger audience. He started by speaking to his colleagues and quickly realized he could fill a leadership gap. In December 2012, Richard launched his podcast, “Dose of Leadership,” intending to interview successful executives and celebrities to uncover their leadership secrets.
Over the years, Richard Rierson has interviewed more than 530 high-quality leaders & personalities such as Steve Forbes, Shark Tank’s Barbara Corcoran, FedEx CEO Fred Smith, Pittsburgh Steeler Coach Bill Cowher, & Matthew McConaughey, to name a few. His podcast has been named by Fortune, Business Insider, & INC Magazine as a “Top-10 Business Podcast”. It has been downloaded over 3.5 million times.
The Future
Currently living and working in Wichita, Richard Rierson is a full-time real estate investor and remains heavily involved in philanthropic and community outreach endeavors. He enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, playing golf, and reading in his free time.
